Wayne's Hunt

Not much of a hunt, it was over in about an hour.
I wasn't sure I wanted to shoot him on the first morning
but Rylan talked me into it.
We stalked to within about 30-40 yards
and took one shot with a muzzleloader.

Kevin's Bighorn Sheep

After putting in for 14 years, Kevin finally drew a once-in-a-lifetime tag to hunt a bighorn sheep. His hunt area was Unit 272 in Nevada which is the Gold Butte area south of Mesquite. Kevin scouted for 10 days and hunted for 8 and was accompanied by both Brad & Wayne (although Brad wasn't there for the kill). Kevin shot at a ram on the third day of the hunt at 450 yards, but the terrain was rough and he was winded. Finally, on Wednesday, December 1 Kevin's patience paid off. His sheep is a 7-year-old ram and scored 159 on the Boone & Crocket Scale. Congratulations!

Deer Hunt

by Brad Evans

Kannon shot his buck right before dark on Friday, Oct 29. We had just set up camp and decided to hunt an area close to camp because it was getting late. We did a little walk-about and spotted this buck feeding up a side-hill about 600 yards away. We stalked to within 300 yards and decided we couldn't get any closer without spooking the buck, so we set Kannon up for a shot. Luckily we had decided to pack the 300 Win Mag that night instead of Kannon's 243. With the bipod down and in the prone position, Kannon let one rip, and knocked the Big Buck down with one great shot. Way to go Kannon!!! We were both super excited. We ended up leaving the buck in the hills that night because it got dark on us, so we came back early the next morning and packed him out. Kannon's buck was a 27 inch 4x4.

I shot my buck in Utah three days before Kannon shot his, and only a short 8 miles between where the two bucks were shot. I was hunting with Steve Staheli, and we found this area that nobody had been in. We ended up finding quite a few deer, and I ended up glassing this buck up at 1:00 in the afternoon. He was chasing does, so I was able to stalk to within 200 yards of Him, and one shot later it was all over. My buck was a 29 inch 3x3. We were almost 2 miles from the nearest road so we had to pack him out. This is the biggest buck I have ever killed in Utah.

Doc's Buck

I was running out of time to get my deer, so I was very excited when we spotted this buck on some private property south of Absarokee. A couple in our branch had given me permission to hunt there and we spotted it right away. I was happy cause I had to get back for work that afternoon.

Nice buck, nice view.
I like to gut 'em!

Grandma & the gun: The true story!

Dear Julie,
You need to put in the Blog the true story of me sitting on the couch, and shooting Kyle's 22 gun. That morning Steve, Kyle and Crea moved all of my STUFF out of the living room and dining room, as I was getting the carpets cleaned when they got the couches outside Steve said we need to get that old Computer of mine out here and let grandma shoot the hard drive, as it has got some important information on it we don't want any one else to have. Then he said I have got to go get my camera, all the while Kyle and Crea were having a hoot. They had me sit on the couch, Crea gave me his Mountain Dew and Kyle gave me the gun and said you have got to do it. I used the cane to hold the gun steady so I could get the cross hairs right on the hard drive. I done it once then Kyle said repeat it twice more one right after the other, and Steve was shooting the pictures. That is the true story. And about the squirrells, Crea couldn't get a deer with his powder gun hunt so they went Squirrell hunting. I was happy.

Dad's Antelope Hunt

Dad had a lot of support for his antelope hunt last weekend. Brad, Kevin, Wayne, Kannon & Kaden all went along! They left last Friday for Spring Valley which is east of Ely and found a nice little camping spot near a stream.

That night they decided to split up. Dad and Brad went north scouting and Kev, Wayne & the boys went scouting in the other direction. The next morning (Saturday, August 22nd... first day of the hunt), they got up at 4:30 AM and drove several miles. Right off the bat they saw an antelope herd with two bucks.

There was a nice buck heading down road that couldn't get through the fence. Dad used Kevin's gun with the bi-pod and shot it and got it. By 5:55 AM he was down! Dad said he wouldn't be surprised if he were the first one in whole valley to get an antelope.

Kannon and Kaden were certainly excited to see their first antelope hunt! Kannon wanted to gut it, but when it came to cutting out certain parts he decided to pass. Kannon then decided to shoot the pile of guts with a 22 which stunk so bad that when Brad farted later they joked that his fart smelled like pile of antelope guts (yuck!).

Daddyshack 2

Gary Evans' most recent successful hunt - showing the effects of a 12-gauge at close range - not enough meat for a fry. He's been after the little bugger for two weeks. He was heard to say "Go ahead; make my day!"
