Kyle's Mini Mission

Kyle left early this morning by bus to serve a two-week mini mission for the LDS Church. He will be with full-time missionaries and will be required to live by all of the mission rules. He is located in Dayton, NV which is 40 miles from Reno, 25 miles from Lake Tahoe, 12 miles from the State Capitol-Carson City and 7 miles from historic Virginia City.

Nestled in a fertile valley, Dayton is an oasis in western Nevada's high-desert country. Dayton is the earliest settlement in the state, originating with prospectors and settlers attracted by gold and by the Carson River that runs through the valley.

The average high in Dayton for July, the hottest month of the year is only 85ยบ (must be nice!).

Good luck, Kyle! We hope you have a memorable and successful two weeks in preparation for your upcoming full-time mission in Houston, Texas.

Snick's Rag Quilt

I've always wanted a cute quilt for sitting on to watch fireworks or take on a picnic. I made this rag quilt on Saturday... and it only took a day because it's fairly small (I only did 81 squares).
Thanks, Cynthia & Kevin for the Joann's gift card - the red fabric is what you ended up buying me. I'm looking forward to using it this Saturday for the 4th of July celebration in Logandale!

Happy Birthday Chandler!

by Melissa Evans

Chandler is turning 4.  I can't believe it!  Chandler is a fun and funny boy.  He was born with a great sense of humor.  He is so easy going and can understand jokes and even sarcasm better than any four year old I've seen.  We can joke around with him and tease him and he just laughs.  He loves to make up jokes too.  He usually finds a way to incorporate eyeballs into his jokes, which have to be his favorite body part.  He says the funniest one liners, usually without trying!

He loves to play Mario Cart and couldn't care less if he wins or loses- at anything really.  I guess he's not an Evans in that way.  He does not like competition.  If Rylan ever tries to race with him at anything, he will go slower on purpose, just to spite him, which makes Rylan mad, because he is very competitive!

Chandler is a peacemaker.  If he thinks you are mad at him, he gets sad and wants a hug.  He sometimes even gets sad if Rylan gets into trouble, and will try to get him out of it.  Chandler is a very loving boy.  If you ask Jared who he loves, he will say Chandler first 98% of the time.  He also loves to snuggle.  The boys aren't allowed to sleep in our bed, but Chandler has a way of sneaking into our bed just close enough to us so that we don't notice, but sometimes about roll over onto him getting up in the morning without even knowing he's there!

Chandler is a thinker.  He is always coming up with what we call, "Deep Thoughts by Chandler."  Which are random observations that he makes such as: "houses don't have arms."  or, " If you are bored, you should play a board game." Or when I told him that his shorts were on backwards and he said, "Mom it doesn't matter because the tag is on the side!"

Chandler's favorite foods are breakfast foods: Cheerios, waffles, and pancakes.  He also loves Strawberry milk, and apple juice.  His favorite movie at the moment is The Bee Movie.  He likes to watch the Disney channel, and is the only one who would watch Dancing with the Stars with me.  (I think just because he knew everyone else hated it, and he LOVES to be contrary!)  He is very into super heros and dressing up like them.  He likes Superman, Batman, and Buzz the most.

Chandler has been such a good, fun boy to raise, I am still waiting for the terrible two's to hit, and he's four...  Happy Birthday Chandler!

Camping Treasure Hunt

At Kevin's property on Beaver Mountain before everyone else arrived on Friday, Kevin & his kids and Chuck & Snick made up names for all of the locations on the property. The map was drawn by Tylee.

Lower Lair - Trailer site (Brad & Candi's trailer) on the closest spot to the main road
Symphony's Sleeper - Kevin & Cynthia's trailer
The Grumpy Groundhog - Trailer site (Mom & Dad's trailer)
Halle's Hideaway - Tent site (Deb & Randy's spot)
Outer Limits - Tent site (Wayne & Melissa's spot)... technically not on Kev's property
The Komfy Kaden - Tent site (vacant)
Kode's Cook-Shack - Kevin's Cook-Shack
The Stop & Drop - Outhouse
Tylee Ann Happy Land - Picnic tables/main gathering spot
Kozy Kobe - Tent site (vacant). Although... Kobe put several other kids to work sweeping, cleaning and setting up "house". They had several rooms including 2-flat screen (plywood) TV's!
Snick Pit - Horseshoe pit
Fart Fort - Log structure
Sleepy Hollow - Hammock
Quad Corral - 4-wheeler parking area
Chuck Hut - Chuck & Snick's tent site
Quiver Corner - Archery range

The adults gathered around on Saturday while the kids were off playing to make up the following clues for a treasure hunt....
We've gathered you 'round the fire pit
for something fun to do.
A treasure hunt is what's in store...
here's a map and your first clue:

In the fort where you can fart,
your very first clue will loom.
Search the north wing and it will be
in the corner of the room.

The Lower Lair is your next stop,
you'll think you're pretty cool.
The very next clue that you must find
is in a box of tools!

Toward the Sleepy Hollow
is the way to point your shoes.
Your clue is on the hammock's wood...
If you take a snooze, you lose!

Hanging from a lower limb
at Halle's Hideaway,
just like a plane is your next clue.
Read it, then run away!

Jog down to Quiver Corner,
but don't trip as you go.
If you get to the target, you've gone too far -
Look for a tree as white as snow.

At the Kozy Kobe
a pink flag hangs in the air.
Hurry up and find your clue
before getting eaten by a bear!

At the Grumpy Groundhog,
the clue is plain you'll see.
It's hiding underneath a bush
that looks like a Christmas tree.
(oh da do da day!)

The Outer Limits is really far
so hurry... don't be late!
Watch your step, 'cause there may be puke
as you open the tailgate.

As soon as you finish reading this poem
run to Symphony's Sleeper.
You'll find your clue on the porch
sitting underneath the sweeper.

Over in the Quad Corral
there is a place just dandy.
Look inside the saddlebag
of the quad of Brad & Candi.

There's a place at the Komfy Kaden
under a big rock, you know.
When you pick it up to get the clue,
don't drop it on your toe!

Tylee Ann Happy Land
is where we stop to eat.
Look real hard, you'll find a clue
under a wooden seat.

There is a clue at the Stop & Drop...
it's behind the light, you see.
Take the note and read the clue -
don't stop to take a pee!

Over at Kode's Cook Shack
it is a happenin' spot.
You'll quickly find your next clue
beneath the cowboy coffee pot.

This hiding place is an easy one...
just look a little bit
under the horseshoes for your next clue
in a place called the Snick Pit.

Now you've gone through all the clues...
you're each as sly as a fox.
Open up the shed's side door
and find your treasure box!

*The treasure was a Rice-Krispy Treat and a fruit-rollup for each kid.

Happy 21st Wedding Anniversary to Deb & Randy!

Carissa's 18th Birthday

This year was Carissa’s “Golden Birthday” - she turned 18 on the 18th! Carissa graduated with honors earlier this month from Durango High School.  She has been accepted into BYU-Provo and will be attending school there in the fall.  She has received a scholarship for tuition and books and has recently applied for another scholarship as well.   Carissa has been working at a doctors office and is also teaching piano this summer to earn money for college.  It’s hard for me to believe she’s grown up and heading out on her own (and harder to believe it’s been 23 years since I went to BYU!).

I hope you had a great birthday, Sissy!

I love you... Aunt Snick
