Solomon Family Update

10/6
I attended a job training conference in Chinook, MT which is about 20 miles from Havre where Milo works. So, I was able to stay with him at night and then drive back to Chinook in the mornings to attend the conference. They arranged for us to go on the "Havre Underground" tour one evening and Milo came along with us. It is an underground museum showing how the Havre business community operated underground after a huge fire in 1904. It proved to be very convenient during prohibition as tunnels led everywhere to businesses, residences and "other" businesses. There was obviously a lot of "hanky panky" going on down there. The tour was very interesting and definitely worth the money.

Me and my LDS friend and coworker, Tammie, in the saloon. Our sheriff said he was worried about us two going off to a conference together, so we brought him back this picture.

Senior Night Football

Senior Night is a big event here. The parents make collages of their senior to display in the school the week of the last home game. The night of the game, the parents are introduced along with their senior at the start of the game. So, we got to hold Andre's hand and walk through the team tunnel out to the center of the field. The moms were given roses, and then parents could give their senior something if they wished.

We attended Alex's last cross country meet in Joliet about 20 miles away. She had been running her three miles in about 27 minutes and needed to shave off another minute in order to qualify for state. We gave her a lot of tips and encouragement, and as you can see from the photos, she pushed it really hard. She came in at 25:53. She is excited to attend state in Helena this weekend.

She was feeling pretty sick and exhausted.
We are very proud of Alex.

Andre was inducted into the National Honor Society. They had a nice candle lighting induction ceremony followed by refreshments afterwards.

Solomon Update

Here are a few things our family has been up to this fall.

Grandpa & Grandma Evans came to visit. We had a great time with them and did lots of fun things. We went to a football game...

...we barbecued...

...Grandpa checked his blood pressure...

...we played games...

...we enjoyed the weather...

...we made salsa...

...we sewed...

...and last, but not least, we ate Grandpa's famous pea soup and lots of peach shakes!
After Grandpa & Grandma went back home, we had more exciting events.

Alex's Cross Country meets:

Connor's football games:

We took a trip to Helena and toured the capitol building. On the drive up, we saw a huge moose!

Andre's Eagle project has been in the works for over a year and has finally come to pass. He striped the Stillwater County Courthouse parking lot after it was freshly rechipped. We had a great turnout of brethren from the branch to help out and it was a great success!

Elder Carlson year update

Dear family and friends,

Well I have been serving in the Great Texas Houston Mission for a little over a year now and have loved every minute of it. My mission has been such a learning experience and my growth has been a blessing. I didn't fully realize what a spiritual, fun, exciting and amazing time this would be for me. I thank you all for your examples, support and testimonies.

I know that through revelation the prophet knew that I just had to come here to learn all I needed and meet those who needed me. I think it is beautiful here and the temple looks like a castle. Our mission President is a great man and he leads us to do a great work here.

I miss you all a lot. I have thought recently about family that I saw at wonderful activities before I left, such as my receiving of my endowments and my farewell. All the family activities we had when I was growing up with monthly birthday parties. I sure hope I get a chance to see you all at my homecoming as well!

The lives that have changed go beyond just mine, the people that I have had the opportunity to teach have been influenced and felt the spirit as they have progressed towards baptism and activity in the Church. I could tell a million stories about those I have taught and the amazing times with them. But....I just simply don't have any time! I'll have plenty after my mission but I hope you can check out pictures on facebook. I'll add a few to this blog post along with my monthly ones that will follow hereafter. =]
Peace, Love & Honor,
ELDER kyle CARLSON
